Welcome!

Afternoon Snack: We will have an afternoon snack every day in our classroom. Please send a healthy snack that is easy to open and clean up. Students should keep their snack in their locker until it is snack time.

Water Bottles: I do allow water bottles in the class, as long as they are not twist top. If you have any questions on what is acceptable, please let me know.

Sweater or Light Jacket: I know the weather is warm outside, but our classroom and school building can be chilly.  Please send a light sweater or jacket with your child.

Extra Clothes: We also encourage leaving a change of clothes in your child’s locker or backpack.

Homework Folder: A blue plastic homework folder will be sent home with your child on Mondays and should be returned on Fridays. Homework should take less than 20 minutes a day. Parents may assist with homework if necessary. Additionally, your child should read to an adult or be read to at least 20 minutes every day.  Homework will begin in September.

Morning Drop Off: First graders will line up under the covered area before school. Several teachers will be on duty starting at 7:15 to supervise the children. For your child’s safety he or she needs to remain in line and enter the building with the rest of the first graders.

Dismissal: This year, the dismissal location for parent walk-up will be inside the building.  The first grade parent walk-up location will be at the Flag Pole facing Greenbriar.  Parents enter from small gate at circle drive.  For the first two days of school, please use a sheet a paper with first and last name of student, grade level and teacher name for carpool pick up and parent walk up pick up.  The parent should display the sign on the dashboard or passenger side window, or hold the sign if they are walking to pick up their child.  Please complete the following link to let me know how your child will get home the first two days of school. https://forms.office.com/r/dxdVGN1vsw

Birthday Celebrations: We will celebrate class birthdays throughout the school year.  Please email me ahead of time if you plan on bringing treats.  You may drop off the treats in the morning, and we will celebrate in the afternoon. Parents will not be allowed to attend the birthday celebration as this may interfere with our tight learning schedule.  However, I am more than happy to take photos and videos of your child's birthday celebration.  Please do not sent any birthday treats with nuts in them.

Volunteering: To volunteer in the classroom and on other committees, sign up on the Roberts PTO website (www.robertspto.membershiptoolkit.com).

VIPS: To volunteer in any capacity at the school the parent must be registered with HISD Volunteers in Public Schools (VIPS).  There are two steps to the process; register online via the VIPS tab on the HISD homepage or by visiting www.houstonisd.org/vips and bring a valid photo ID to reception.  The background check can take 3-4 weeks to complete and parents must be cleared before they can volunteer at the school.  Parents who were registered last year must update their information in the system this year in order to be cleared and re-activated.

Text Alerts from HISD: Parents can opt-in for text alerts from HISD by texting ‘yes’ to 68453.

Directory Listing: The directory listing form should be completed online. Please direct parents to the School Directory tab on the Roberts PTO website to designate what information you want to share. Link:  www.robertspto.membershiptoolkit.com
